The plot of the hit Transformers movies isn't complex really when you break it all down. Longtime fans of the classic robot toys that are "more than meets the eye" know that it's all just a basic battle between good and evil forces. Many of today's popular science fiction or fantasy films feature these epic battles which take place on Earth, other planets or in other realms. Good examples would include Lord of the Rings, the Matrix and Star Wars, all of which feature battles to save humanity in one form or another. Transformers is just the same and features robots who disguise themselves in other forms such as vehicles. When necessary they transform into their robot warrior selves to do battle.
Much like Star Wars has the good guys and the bad guys, Transformers has its two sides as well, the Autobots and the Decepticons. These robotic warriors live on a far away planet where they do battle. The Autobots are the "good side" lead by the veteran warrior, Optimus Prime. He's a large silver, red and blue tractor trailer who transforms into the tall-standing robot leader. His nemesis is named Megatron, a vindictive leader for the Decepticons or bad guys. Megatron transforms into a large gun or battle tank weapon of mass destruction. In the movies, these two sides have arrived to Earth to continue waging their war, and unfortunately the human race gets caught in the middle. Luckily the main character, Sam, played by Shia Labeouf befriends Bumblebee, a good guy yell Camaro car that helps speed him out of harm's way. Bumblee figures prominently in both movies as Sam's protector.
If you're new to the Transformers movies, you don't have to study up too much on what these movies are all about. It's important to know that it's really all just a big battle between good and evil, with Planet Earth as the battlefield. The Decepticons are looking to win at all costs and don't care about wiping out Earth or the humans, while the Autobots are there for the protection of the planet. Don't let the movie become too complex as it's really just a huge, enjoyable thrill ride featuring cool robot technology and special effects.
