FDA warning for acute kidney injury colonoscopy pre - Colon Cleaner.

วันจันทร์ที่ 30 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 § 0

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has released several recent warnings advising consumers and doctors about the risks associated with several popular drugs that are administered prior to getting a colonoscopy. The drugs have been linked to numerous reports of acute kidney injury (AKI) when patients were given drugs containing oral sodium phosphate (OSP), a popular colon cleanse prescription drug. In light of the reports of injury, the FDA has also advised that no children under the age of eighteen be administered these drugs because their kidneys and other vital organs which process toxins in the body are still in the developmental states.

Other Alternatives for Patients Needing a Pre-Colonoscopy Colon Cleanse
In light of these troubling recent reports there are alternatives that patients can use to cleanse the colon prior to such exams: a natural colon cleanse is the most likely solution, using a product that cleans out the colon prior to exam using all-natural compounds that are gentle on the colon and that have no known adverse side effects. In reality, there are effective and safer colon cleanse products currently available over-the-counter and without a prescription that yield the same benefits as a traditional OSP colon cleanse drug. And when the risks of damaging important and vital organs are at the fore, patients should always be wise and consider all other options before placing themselves at unnecessary risks for what is considered to be routine colon examination.

Thankfully there is a wide array of safer, all-natural colon cleansing products currently on the market. Many offer identical benefits as the prescription strength colon cleanse drugs however they do not have any known side effects. Similarly, the natural colon cleansing products work as effectively as the prescribed drugs, but on the contrary, they are more easily acquired and they tend to be more cost effective

This is a story has several main characters but I am only going to list two: a young, innocent lady who is also a princess that must reawaken a white dragon to save the world from the dark lord and his wyverns(evil dragon-like creatures). Calli, who has dedicated herself to defeating the evil Tyrkam. The story focuses on fighting and escaping Tyrkam, his bandits, and Lusiradol, but has some romance in the calmer situations. The viewpoint shifts between many characters throughout sixty chapters(short chapters). Unfortunately, there are so many characters that this can get frustrating when a character your curious about doesn't reappear for a while. The story is usually fast and intense, which makes the sequel something to look forward to. There are wicthes, wizards,shape-shifters, good and evil dragons, and powerful good and evil forces. There are also those whose intentions are not clear yet. This book is probably not suitable for those under fifteen(though this might not be In some cases) to.

Fantasy world based in ancient statue of Hera.

§ 0

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The mystery of ancient civilizations teases you with the unknown. Unearthed artifacts whether they are masterworks of art or simple every day tools excite your imagination as you wonder what life was really like thousands of years ago. The recently discovered statue of the Greek Goddess Hera in the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Dion serves as an excellent example of the thrilling visions that we can see from the ancient world.

The marble statue of Hera was reported by archeologist Dimitris Pantermalis to be 2,200 years old. Preliminary analysis of its stone and craftsmanship has matched it to a statue of Zeus discovered in the same ruined city in 2003. Pantermalis speculates that the Hera and Zeus statues are a matched set, which would mark the first time two statues of different gods from the same Greek temple were recovered.

Images of the Hera statue as shown in numerous media reports show a female figure seated on a throne dressed in loose garments. Unfortunately the head is missing, but the life-sized figure still conjures images of the Goddess Hera presiding over worshippers in a grand and beautiful temple with Mount Olympus commanding the horizon.

The ancient city of Dion has been identified as a major religious center for the ancient Macedonians. According to a March 1, 2007 article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer about the Hera statue, Alexander the Great gave offerings at her temple before launching his legendary invasion of the Persian Empire.

Although the Hera statue post-dates the era of Alexander the Great, she was placed in a venerable temple where once walked such heroes of history. At the feet of the Hera statue, supplicants with simple or complicated problems must have given offerings of food and fine goods. Women wishing for their Greek sons to return home safely from war likely prayed to the statue. And priests surely schemed in the shadows of their marble Gods for power and prestige.

When studying ancient cultures, it is easy to let your imagination wander. There are always more questions than answers when information is coming from scattered ruins and scraps of written records. Where history must yield to the unknown, literature takes over. Authors conceive of grand sagas as intricate and entertaining as the mythology of ancient civilizations, like the Greeks, to serve the role of telling stories about people and places in the distant past. The fantasy genre is particularly inspired by the gaping holes of history. Think of all the lost civilizations and unknown ancient intrigues that have no way to be told except through modern muses whispering their stories to fantasy and historical fiction genre authors.

Tremendous inspiration lies among the ruins of ancient civilizations. Of all the myths and heroic adventures that have survived to the modern era, stop to consider how many good stories crumbled with the temples and are buried with Disappear Hera.

Introduction to World of Warcraft.

วันศุกร์ที่ 27 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 § 0

World of Warcraft is the most popular MMORPG on the market right now. But this is just something to be expected from the creators of the single-player versions of the game as well as other massively popular titles such as Diablo and Starcraft. The online incarnation of Warcraft is the fourth title released in the series by Blizzard Entertainment. But it's the first to be an MMORPG. The reasons why this game became a success and will continue to be in the years to come are readily apparent as soon as you enter their universe.

There's only one word to describe the graphics that you are presented with - revolutionary. Environments were intricately made, with attention paid to the tiniest details. Blizzard's development team did very well in designing and programming each race to be unique, with different characteristics for them all. This, coupled with their own distinct culture and section of the world creates an elegant and engrossing environment in which to begin an adventure. Every class, character and piece of equipment has its own unique, innovative design. Actions and emotions are programmed so well, making it a rich experience to play the game. The cities are thoughtfully designed, with each of their parts not only looking unique, but also alive.

Another aspect of World of Warcraft that stands out is the storyline. The story expands on the title's predecessors, drawing from years of lore and continuing forward with it. The plot centers around the epic struggle between the Alliance, consisting of the Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, and Draenei and the Horde, composed of Orcs, Trolls, Undead, Tauren, and Blood Elves. The game throws you into the struggle of these races, all fighting for dominance.

Although the graphics and storyline of World of Warcraft go a long way towards making it the best, the one aspect that pushes it unceasingly forward is its gameplay. A player starts by choosing his or her race, and most importantly, class. There are ten classes in the game, namely: Hunters, Druids, Paladins, Mages, Priests, Shamans, Rogues, Warriors, Warlocks, and Death Knights. The classes are limited to some races, such as Orcs not being allowed to become mages and Dwarves not able to become shaman.

Another thing that is important for you to decide when playing World of Warcraft is the server you'll play on. There are three server types to choose from: Normal, RP or PvP. A Normal server is where you can play to really get a feel for the game. You cannot be attacked by other players without your permission, so you are free to enjoy the storyline to the fullest extent. An RP or Roleplaying server is one where your character's name and actions are expected to follow their race and class. You will be creating a true character on one of these, and expected to act the part. The PvP server is, of course, where you can most freely attack other players. While they're leveling. While they're trying to read a quest. Whether they want you to or not.

Like any other MMORPG, World of Warcraft offers you quests where you will be rewarded with experience, items and money. You are able to acquire a variety of weapons that all have their own, unique ability. The more you advance your character's level, the more advanced your weapons and equipment become. Some are classified as rare items and are, therefore, more difficult to get.

Overall, anyone who is into online games should play World of Warcraft, at least give it try, it will soon find that you are hopelessly immersed in the best MMORPG you've played.

Video recorded by Master LL in HD! Why? The Boss #05-07 recording was somewhat corrupted as you'll see some parts got "skipped", not sure why or how it happens since I don't think Boss #01-04 had any of those skipping problems. or maybe I'll stream just going around then shut down streaming to record boss battles.. that can work too (at least it'll be much more safer and I know it won't be corrupted). Or maybe I can even get a cheap webcam or something that can "direct feed" off what my monitor shows, it could save the cpu power so I can record while playing (probably less laggy too.. but we'll see). Because I use: - VHscreencap to "capture" what I see on my monitor - Adobe Flash Media Encoder to encode for streaming (required) - ArcSoft Viewer which is what I use To view and save the (necessary) are the three that eat my CPU 100% .. if I can find a way to "catch up" to the other --------------- CPU free. --- System: PS3 - EN first game in the form of WMV HD, a bit rate of 8.0Mbps, 1280x720, 30 fps, codec WMV7.

Snow White: fairest of all parts (09/02).

วันจันทร์ที่ 23 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 § 0

There is perhaps no more beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale than the legend of a beautiful young girl fleeing her home because of a jealous stepmother. Now more breathtaking than any previous interpretation, "Snow White: The Fairest of Them All" is a fantasy of truly epic scope. Wonderfully acted and cleverly scripted, this modern retelling introduces such classic elements as Snow White's miraculous birth and the mysterious reason why her father remarries after his wife's death. Miranda Richardson ("Enchanted April", "Merlin") stars as Queen Elspeth, the beautiful, yet vain stepmother whose desire to be the "fairest in the land" ultimately leads her to conspire to kill any rival for that title. Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville") stars as Snow White, the winsome young princess who is forced to run away into the forest where she finds protection and shelter with a band of peculiar little men. "Snow White: The Fairest of Them All" is a magical adventure with such dazzling special effects and unforgettable characters that it will instantly capture the hearts--and imaginations--of a whole new generation. In my opinion, this is the best Snow White movie ever made. I'm very sorry about the subtitles and that the sound is off! NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. I just love this movie and want others to be able to enjoy it as well!

I read the first book because it was a free kindle download on Amazon. Well, if their plan was to get people interested in the series, it worked like a charm! I loved the first book & couldn't put it down. This second installment carries on with the journey of our witch & friends. It's a little darker than the first, but I think as adults we've all moved past the everything must be sunshine, roses and happy endings, right? If you enjoyed the first book, I highly recommend you read this one And the rest of the set. The best set of books to read some more time! First, it's free or for a light I never met this writer is excited.

How To Write An Epic Fantasy Novel - A No Nonsense Guide To Getting The Job Done

วันศุกร์ที่ 20 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 § 0

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The key to writing a real epic fantasy novel lies in the word "epic". But this doesn't just mean big in scale, scope, and size. An epic fantasy novel doesn't have to be a thousand page doorstop. It has to be epic in its ambitious reach for finding answers to the big questions in life. This is the true and hidden goal of epic fantasy. It is a vehicle for understanding what life is about. And even though the story may have dragons, and take place on an unbelievable world that doesn't really exist it needs to be applicable to the human condition.

So this is the first thing you have to do when writing an epic fantasy novel. Decide what you want to say about life or what important topic you want to explore. Write this down and keep it in mind throughout your whole novel writing experience. And remember that you don't have to come right out and explain your theme. It is usually better, and more rewarding for the reader, if you reveal the theme slowly and allow him or her to discover it.

Some common themes you may want to explore in epic fantasy include the examination of the nature of good and evil, the ultimate meaning of life, the quest to understand oneself, or the challenge of making the transition from childhood to adulthood.

Writing a book can be joyous, yet hard work, and you may need some motivation to get you through the whole task and here is all the motivation you will need. Write your theme down on a big piece of paper and pin it to the wall near your computer. Start it out like this: "My novel is all about: ". Then put in your theme or themes. Here is an example: "My novel is all about how adversity is the most important thing in life. It is through adversity that we each become a better person. Gold comes out of the ground dirty and ugly. It is by going through the fire that it is purified and made beautiful. And I am going to put my main character through the fire!" Whenever writing becomes difficult for you this will be a source of inspiration because you have something to say and your novel is how you are going to say it. The world truly deserves to hear your perspective on the big questions in life.

When doing the actual writing of the prose of the novel I recommend you set yourself a very distinct goal. This is imperative and the goal I recommend you set is that you will write part of the story every single day until it is done. It is even ok if you just write one sentence or even if you write a whole passage that you know you are going to delete tomorrow. The important thing is that you write every day.

I don't recommend you set goals that are pinned to dates or word counts. Dates can be tricky because a novel is a fluid thing. Your novel could end up being fifty thousand words or two hundred thousand words. This is because you are exploring a theme and more ideas and angles are going to come to you as progress. And I don't recommend pinning a daily or weekly word count to your writing because writing is a creative process and you could end up with just a lot of filler. Simply set yourself the goal of sitting down and writing every day. This will keep the writing going, keep the story moving, and insure your improvement. At some point in the middle of the novel you are going to look back and realize that you are in a routine and everything is flowing quite smoothly.

I have two final bits of advice for you when it comes to writing your epic fantasy novel. First off I recommend you keep a spiral bound notebook for ancillary information and notes. This is where you keep ideas, plot lines, character names, places and all your ancillary information organized. As your novel, and the world it portrays grows, you will need to manage a lot of information and over the course of months or even a year or more of writing you are going to forget things. But a reader could potentially go through your novel in just a few hours. He or she is going to see logical flaws. Write down the details in a spiral bound notebook and refer to it often.

The last bit of advice I have for you is that you should never rely on the fantasy aspect of your world as an escape route. What I mean is that there is nothing worse than watching the main character of a novel getting out of a tricky spot by whipping out a super-duper magical spell that the reader never even knew about. Make sure there are rules in your world and make sure your characters follow them. You are drawing parallels to real life and in real life there are tangible rules to everything. So create rules in your world and follow them.

An epic fantasy novel is an exploration of the big questions in life. You have a very valuable point of view about these big questions and there is an audience out there that is very willing to listen. Write yourself a clear statement of what you want to say and then write toward that goal every day. Before long you will have a written work that you will be proud of and that will enrich other peoples lives by shedding light on the human condition.

Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind - Book Review

วันพุธที่ 18 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 § 0

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Wizard's First Rule is the first Terry Goodkind book in the Sword of Truth series which is also the basis for the ABC television series Legend of the Seeker. This is a review of this remarkable book.

This isn't your typical epic fantasy book. Yes, it has all of the normal trappings you would expect such as an epic sized quest, plenty of conflict, and of course a dragon or two. This book has all those things but it has significantly more. In Wizard's First Rule Goodkind shows us more than just an epic adventure story where our hero attempts to save the world from ruin.

Our hero is named Richard Cipher and we adventure with him on a journey to becoming a seeker. A seeker's role is to find the truth in things and a seeker's sword has the word "Truth" engraved on it. And it is in this journey to find truth that Goodkind takes this story from just a story to a real exploration of truth and the nature of good and evil. There are many conversations and situations that explore the bipolarity of good versus evil and the grey area that lies between the two. Doesn't it make sense that even the evilest of men believes that what he is doing is righteous? Yes it does and Goodkind takes a good hard look at this. He raises questions in your mind about the whole nature of truth and the real commitment it takes to find the real truth. This is an intelligently written book that gives you more than just a story. It gives you lots of food for thought.

Unique Twist on the story

A typical and effective tool that a writer will use is to put our hero on a time limit -as time counts down the tension builds. It is very effective writer's tool and in this novel Goodkind puts a nice spin on this. He puts the evil bad guy on a timer. Our protagonist (Darken Rahl) has a very specific time limit if he is to achieve his personal goals that will bring ruin down on the world. And our hero, along with a small group of companions can foil it all if they can just hold things off long enough for time to run out. It's a wonderful reversal of the usual time limit based story.

The Story and Writing

The story and writing are superb. There are some interesting and surprising plot twists and things that happen. In other words you go along for quite a wild and exciting ride. And there are some unique fantasy themes and ideas like the Boxes of Orden and the Book of Counted Shadows which are both central to the story and quite unique.

Avoiding some of the Pitfalls of typical epic fantasy

One of the biggest problems I run across with epic fantasy series is the complexity they often contain. Many series of books have enormously complex worlds with a cast of characters that numbers in the scores if not hundreds. This complexity can get very confusing as various factions, lordships, families, and bloodlines partake in the story. In Wizards First Rule there is none of this. We are introduced to the central characters early in the book and as the story progresses we meet a small number of new characters that are central to the story. It all flows very smoothly and it all stays on target. You won't have to take any notes to keep track of all the characters.

Theme and Reading level

This book is not for children or for the faint of heart. There is some graphic violence and an extended torture scene that you will find unsettling. I found it uncomfortable to read and this is exactly the point that Goodkind was trying to make. If you want to carefully study the ethics and morals of the battle between good and evil you have to fully show both sides of this coin - both the good in all its goodness and the evil in all its dark and unsettling reality. The only real way to defeat evil is to first see it and acknowledge it.

Wizard's First Rule is an intelligently written and exciting epic fantasy story that goes beyond just a story. It is also an examination of ethics, values, morals, and the perpetual battle between good and evil. It will make you think about the nature of the struggle and the real purpose of the hero.

Nearing the Summer Months - A Cellulite Cream Can Whip You in Shape Quickly!

วันอังคารที่ 17 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2553 § 0

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Have you ever wondered how effective cellulite creams are? Do you have some cellulite on your body that you wouldn't mind saying goodbye to forever? Thankfully, the science behind the best creams of today is so advanced that it can offer these real benefits. Just in time to get rid of your abnormal fatty deposits for the upcoming swimsuit adorned days of the summertime.

The Science Behind Cellulite Formation (in a Nutshell)
While there are ample scientific explanations as to the effectiveness of cellulite creams-most that are so jargon-filled that many people will fail to understand what they are talking about, much less comprehend it-the best way to explain how the leading brands work is to simplify it. There are cells that store fat. There are cells that create fat. The best cellulite creams inhibit both of these cells in the targeted areas. And they work to naturally increase the burning of fats that are already stored in cells that contribute to the formation of abnormal fatty deposits.

Cellulite Creams are Easy to Use!
The best part about the leading brands of such creams that are currently on the market is that they are so easy to use. First of all, you can use them in the comfort and the privacy of your own home. And you can typically order them online from a secured online store and have them shipped right to your front door just a few days later. The best of such creams can be very easily applied and they go right to work on that fat that you want to eliminate.

Simply apply about a marble-sized amount to the palm of your hand. Then massage the cream into all noticeable areas of cellulite on your body that you want removed. Repeat this process daily and you will see noticeable results typically with one or two months. However, it is important to keep in mind that using more than the recommended amounts of cellulite creams or the recommended applications will do nothing to speed up the results.

Robert Jordan Audible Books

§ 0

If you are someone who loves to watch the cable TV Sci-Fi channel, and you loved movies such as the cinematic renditions of Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars epic saga...but, somehow, you don't have the patience or the time to actually do much reading, then there may be a real treat for you waiting in the Robert Jordan audible books.

Robert Jordan has actually written for quite a while, in many different genres and/or subject matters, including dance criticism and history articles. But this writer began striking gold in 1990 when he conjured up his 'Wheel of Time' series of novels with the first of what has now become an immensely long series. That first novel was called 'The Eye of the Word' and Jordan has not stopped since its best-selling publication. Indeed, he said from the start of the series that he intends to keep on writing "until they nail his coffin shut".

Jordan's endless curiosity and wide reading clearly come to light in his 'Wheel of Time' series of fantasy novels. Jordan trods familiar ground--the epic Tolkienesque ground, that is--but he also departs from the grand master in certain significant ways.

For one thing, Jordan brings a gritty realism to the writing of his books that Tolkien (deliberately) did not. With Robert Jordan's books, we feel that even though we are living in a fantasy realm we are also living in our own everyday world. While Tolkien also created his great and enduring fantasy realms from real historical material, he tended more toward the faerie story and the "pure" myth. Jordan gives us no faerie tales, and he does not pretend to be delving too deeply into the human dim and distant past. Jordan gives us books wherein females play out more equally than in Tolkien; it's not so much that Jordan makes Tolkien seem to dislike women, but rather that he dares to believe that he can understand both genders (something more authors of both genders should dare to do). On the one hand he accepts and completely plays with gender stereotypes even to the point of creating a world where there is unbalanced "magick" because the male energy force is tainted by an ancient counterstroke of power from the Dark One in the throes of his (initial) defeat and so only gifted females can be fully trusted (supposedly) to wield the power; on the other hand, he uses deftly described interactions (and a great deal of them) between important, and sometimes not so important, members of each gender to show forth the foibles and prejudice of each gender in a stark and unforgiving light.

So females play a much more prominent in Jordan than they did in Tolkien and so do gender politics and sexuality. But his hero (and de facto Messianic Savior), Rand Al'Thor, is still a male, so Jordan is no sell-out Fantasy feminist. Jordan's fantasy realm is built upon real-world syncretism, in fact. One who listens to these dramatically read audible renditions of his works will find not-so-deeply-disguised embodiments of every major world religion and mythos, allusions to real-world ethnicity, realistically rendered small town vs. cosmopolitan mentality, royalty vs. common man, force vs. knowledge, political intrigue, scientific or at least philosophical attempts at understanding of "magic", and all-too-human mundane confusion in the greatest of the heroes. The Robert Jordan audible books are a great addition to an avid non-reader's Fantasy library.

I am a writer of inspirational fiction: realistic, believable stories that acknowledge the existence of worldly temptations and despairs, while at the same time using Biblical truths as solutions and encouragement for success. My stories tell of life like it is, offer hope that things can be better; and admonish while they inspire.

People often ask me where I get my ideas. The easy answer is that God gives them to me, of course. But the more complicated answer involves explaining how my life is like a giant fishing net that is perpetually gathering material: from life experiences, friends and acquaintances, and Bible study. Some combination, huh? I have a tee shirt that says, BE CAREFUL OR YOU MAY END UP IN MY NEXT NOVEL. How true!

I love to write stories that involve magnificent transformations, incredible victories, and assurance of happy endings - not because I'm a big fan of fantasies but because I sincerely believe that all things are possible in a life committed to God. Why not have such expectations? My stories are about real life and real situations and how real people react to the complexities of life. I add in faith, sometimes subtly and sometimes in your face, because that's real life, too. Then, I weave a story around the concept of the choices we all make - good and bad - and how things inevitably work out in the end. Sometimes it's a Recipe for Disaster and sometimes it indicates A Well Behaved Woman's Life.

I write realistic fiction, not fantasy.

With God everything is possible. Matthew 19:26b

My life has taught me that being a woman after God's own heart involves endless trust, perpetual prayer, and faith walks that no woman without God's love and protection would ever dare to go. A heart committed to God becomes rather fearless in my humble opinion. No, I haven't faced down an angry mob of four hundred armed men with a picnic basket like Abigail did (I Samuel 25:18), but I have argued my beliefs in the face of tremendous skepticism and derision - and that was scary!! I write what I do because I am a product of God's grace and mercy... and His miraculous transformations. For you see, I wasn't always this opinionated, confident, godly woman - and I still struggle daily to stay on this Rock I choose to make my home.

Without God, I am a shy, introverted, insecure woman who feels that she's never pretty enough, smart enough, clever enough, or strong enough to be much good to anyone. But you know something? I believe with all my heart that God doesn't make mistakes. That has to mean that I've got everything I'm supposed to have in order to succeed according to God's plan for me. If God's made me, then I must have the potential to make God smile - how amazing is that?

God doesn't need us perfect. He just needs us willing.

Let God transform you into a new person. Romans 12:2

The Bible is filled with women just like me and you who seemed woefully ill equipped to do what God wanted them to do. Their stories - told sometimes with painfully embarrassing details, are meant to inspire and educate us. Sarah, barren for almost her entire life, was chosen to be the mother of God's chosen race (Genesis 21:7). Rahab, a lowly prostitute, was selected to be the heroine of the battle of Jericho (Joshua 6:25). Mary, an unwed pregnant teen, was designated to be the mother of our Lord (Luke 1:30). They were chosen not because God forced them into it, but because their hearts were open to the challenge. Throughout the Bible, the consistent theme is that God is never interested in the smartest, or the prettiest, or the wisest, or the richest, or the bravest. Why should we assume that He has changed the rules for us now? God wants those of us with nothing but an open heart so that He can show His power and His might through our miraculous transformations and accomplishments. We can do all things through Christ's strength in us! Did I hear an 'Amen'?

With God, I have learned to battle my personal demons. I still quake with fear before I do something public like speak before the church, conduct a training session for my peers, or present my written works to curious strangers. But I do it because I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that once I get up there magic happens with my words and thoughts and I become this coherent, intelligent woman. It is the Lord working His magic through me and my faith and my trust... and it is an amazing experience.

I pray a lot because I'm a big chicken and it makes me feel safer. Hey, if the God of The Universe wants to communicate personally with me and the only avenue open to me is prayer, who am I to decline? I pray in the shower, while I'm doing the dishes, and if you passed me the other day on the highway, I wasn't talking on my cell phone! The more I pray, the more I see the world through God's eyes and the more I understand what He needs me to do.

My goal each day is to make God smile. No, I haven't built any wells in remote African villages nor have I donated enough money to build a new hospital wing. While I'm at it I'll tell you that I hate to cook, am fantastically impatient, and regularly need to examine my priorities because I tend to slip off course... a lot. But I love to teach - both kids and adults - so I do that regularly at my church. I'm organized and committed once I'm on board with something and I serve with a passionate determination to bring success in all I am involved it. I write - a lot. If I don't write, stories pile up in my head like a backed up drainpipe - which is never a good thing. These are all things that God has given me that others don't have. I'm not bragging, just stating an obvious fact. (And please note that I haven't said I'm fantastically good at anyone of these things, I just seem to have some affinity towards them.) As an added plus, these are things that I enjoy doing. God, in His infinite love and generosity, allows me to use my gifts to His glory... and have a good time doing it. How perfect is that?

We need to make sure that we're doing the most we can do for God in the spot we are standing right now.

Work together with the same purpose. I Corinthians 3:8

I ask regularly for Big Black Arrows from God - because I'm kind of dense and preoccupied as I stumble through this life and regularly are inclined to miss the more subtle signs that He sends my way. Just paint a big black arrow on the ground, God, and I promise I'll follow it willingly wherever it may take me! I must continually remind myself that the Bible says that God works all things to good to those who love Him (Romans 8:28). It took me a while to realize that it doesn't just say "the nice stuff," or "the happy times," or "the rewarding experiences." It says all things. Let's look on the bright side: that means that every single one of my personal disasters all have the potential of working towards good. Well, that's a relief! After all these years, I've decided I'd like to be just like King David (no, I don't care to slay any giants, thank you). I am determined to be a woman after God's own heart - David's female counterpart (I Samuel 13:14). You see David's outstanding quality was that no matter how many times he failed, he willingly acknowledged his culpability and recommitted himself back into God's plan as soon as he clued in - even if he was kneeling in the smoking ruins of his life. Hey, I can do that! I've got plenty of spectacular failures to work with, that's for sure. It's the determination to never give up on God's purpose for my life that I continually must remind myself about.

Through my successes and my failures I am now determined to be a woman of faith no matter what anyone says or thinks. (Picture me with my hands on my hips, my chin raised in defiance.) I want it to be my defining feature, the glue that holds all my pieces together. No matter what hat I'm wearing: mother, sister, daughter, aunt, teacher, friend, classroom helper, annoyed customer, neighbor, or stranger - I want it to be the first distinctive quality anyone notices. It's a noble goal but constant work.

Our faith is our identity, our life is our resume, and our message is that we are no one else's but God's.

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain Philippians 1:20-21

I reached a point where I am delighted to be the unique woman I am because God needs me to be just this way so He can accomplish His specific plan for my life. I no longer want to be like anyone else but me. I don't want anyone else's life but my own. I'll deal with my own problems, my own challenges, and my own goals because they're all necessary to get me where God needs me to be each and every day. My personal space is filled with me and all my issues, thank you very much... I don't need anyone else's.

My husband and I have a saying: "Breathless anticipation of things to come." It's wrapped up in the belief that if I am God's own then He is in control of my life and will give me infinite care. No matter how the future appears I can rest assured that the tapestry of my life is going to be one mighty splendid sight when it's completed. As long as I follow the proper pattern and adhere to all the directions.

Striving to be a woman after God's own heart puts every aspect of your life into perspective. Your foundation becomes rock solid, your walls of protection become invincible, your lines of communication are assured, and your ceiling is the limitless sky. No one, no thing can hold you back... but yourself.

How To Become A Woman After God's Own Heart:

Recognize that your differences enable you to connect with others so that when united an effective, godly machine can be assembled and become functional. Believe that you are important and necessary to God's plan because you are.

Acknowledge that your greatest trials, failures and weaknesses are usually the area in which God wants most to work His Magic and, consequently, the areas of your greatest potential for triumph. Ask God to show you opportunities where you can help others to become better and stronger because of your life's examples of success and failure.
Believe that God wants nothing but the very best for you and that through faith and obedience you really can achieve a happily ever after life of God's design. Know that God's want victory in us and through us.
Earnestly desire an intimate relationship with the God of the Universe and work consistently towards that goal through prayer, devotions, and fellowship with like-minded believers. No more excuses. Go to church. Begin to pray. Read God's word. Make the effort.
Determine to always grow, mature, work, seek and learn. You're 's not finished with your responsibilities here on earth until you're dead. One step at a time, make a concious effort to be better than the person you were yesterday. Be a snowball rolling down hill; let your positive impact grow with each and every move.
You ARE a woman after God's own heart - right now, this very instant, dependent solely on you and your own personal decision for Whom you wish to be in control of your life. Who will you trust? Who will you invest your future with? Who will you believe? When will you make a decision about Joining The Club (the God club, that is)?

Peter Jackson, JRR Tolkien, Celebrity Death Match.

Treebeard Moves!

Soon after its publication, JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings outgrew its popular fiction status. Lord of the Rings is a cultural event. With the motion picture, similar in genius, the meaning is further extricated from its origin. This phenomenon is hardly novel, but in respect to the profound cultural and philosophical significance of Lord of the Rings it is terribly useful to compare the movie with the book.

Of course from book to screen there is a revision. Deletions are especially obvious, but what is done to the overall meaning is less obvious. Also, in the change from literary to motion picture there are stylistic imprints.

The most significance difference is that not only did Tolkien take more time to construct the story, he also took more time within the story.

JRR Tolkien originated the work over decades, drawing it within a written tradition while favoring Anglo-Saxon and including invented languages. Peter Jackson's movie involves a huge amount of things. Innumerable items, such as buttons, were made to two different scales to accommodate the shift in scale from human to hobbits. Converse to the quotidian is the use of satellites to coordinate all the elements working in different parts of the globe. As film is a kind of language, the innovations in special effects can be likened to Tolkien's invention of language.
But apart from those differences in form, we think most of "Why did that get put aside?" "Why was that added?" and then "Why keep that?".

Those questions conceal the most important revision of all: Jackson's portrayal on a smaller landscape, in a smaller scale in time.

Watching the DVD's, there are many contractions in space from the point of view of the characters. Frodo's view from Emyn Muil and Gandalfs view from Minas Tirith are not correct in proportion and proximity to Tolkien's map, but perhaps spatially accurate in respect to Jackon's requisite contraction of time and space. Overall, the space of middle earth seems contracted when it is compared to the landscapes and distances in Tolkien. These contractions in space automatically contract the story in time.

Tolkien scope of time is abnormally wide. Saving the world and global transformations are all cosmic events, but there is also a more humble, human scale in comparison with the motion picture as well.

Perhaps the first clue to this occurs at the beginning, in the discovery of the ring of power is in the hands of a Shire folk. Gandalf arrives, confirms that this hobbit does indeed possess the ring of power, and then this is put aside for weeks. In the movie they hustle out of the Shire. Is it just armchair, professorial pace here?

Tolkien goes on with interruptions not seeming essential to the plot. Or are they? The story's time is near half a year. In the movies the transitions in time seem unremarkable.

Chase scenes and fights and romantic chases: movie time is popular, and it is by it own nature set, for the most part, in real time. It seems merely customary to delete scenes that delay the action in order to streamline or tighten the story dramatically.

Maggot, Bombadil, The Scouring of the Shire: deleted. But not just for the streamlining, but for the nature of the storytelling, do we lose the starting and stopping and starting again, of a story within a story. These deletions eventually weaken in sequence the progression of the movies.

In that starting and stopping is a kind of charm, induced by a more comfortable use of time. At first glance, we develop care about the characters before the main event. It makes us identify strongly with the hobbits. But more important is the idea that is not so obvious, creating heterogeneous time.

Heterogenous time means a variety of different times, past, present, future, beginnings, middles and ends, stories within stories, backstory, fate, destiny, foreshadowing. This puts emphasis on character, or the character driven story.

This kind of time is very different in the movies. Not just that the movie must be shorter and in removing elements meanings change. Though there are a number of storytelling techniques within film narrative; flashbacks and 'flashforwards', dreams, parallel storylines, exposition with voice-over, repetitions, even fade outs and dissolves...the underlying aesthetic power of motion pictures is that the 'now' is overpowering.

The heterogenous time of disconnected or circumstantially connected events has been simulated in Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise by the inclusion of black frames, simulating a kind of ambiguity to where in time and space each successive scene is, but such a technique would not be applicable to the Fellowship of the Ring.

Heterogenous time, in this case a kind of stumbling from event to event, is necessary to create an overall feeling of the time of innocence. Such is the world of the Shire, despite Sackville-Baggins's, and a ring of power stashed in a wooden chest. Such a world is necessary to contrast with the burden of contemplating one's destiny and the cosmos. Thus we feel a hobbit as something in our own experience, going from carelessness of Arcadia to the release of the Grey Havens.

Motion picture techniques with time: introductions, flashbacks, narratives within narratives, are too useful to not use frequently and liberally. This could be confused with heterogeneous time, but it is not. Such techniques, being used here and there for purposes of expediency, do not emphasize a contrast, or create larger scales of transitions from one kind of time to another, as occurs in the trilogy. In Tolkien's narrative, heterogeneous time changes into a quest that unravels into multiple storylines, whose threads then converge at the Crack of Doom. There is a compression of tense.
The Grey Havens is not equal in poignancy between book and DVD. Jackson sought to include the world weary tone that ends Tokien's Lord of the Rings, but somehow, as the grinding pace of the Return of the King is ending there is more relief than a reluctance to let go.

Apart from the "necessary" deletions, weakening of the grip of the story can be attributed to Peter Jackson's film style: his camera work is kinetic. It jumps, hovers, jiggles, leans, kants. It follows arrow-flights. It makes the impression of being hasty. It undermines the overall tone of seriousness, but it does add a value of greater intimacy.

The camera moves more than most other directors. It is essential to have a distinctive style as a director. Directing a film is a negotiated form of authority: others contribute much and a director is pressured to show vision. It is part of the economics, for a signature style, if successful, will encourage audiences to buy tickets again!

Jackson's signature tendency is more controlled in Lord of the Rings, yet harkens to his hasty pace in a plethora of camera angles and in such gags as following the paths of arrows.
Perhaps the weakest shots are the sweeping aerial landscapes: they occur too fast and are felt as secondary. The sense of Middle Earth as a place is impossible to duplicate, not just because Tolkien put stories within stories, but also because Tolkien describes nature and landscape with a particular genius.

Jackson's style can feel artificial, sometimes self- conscious. Moving the camera about excessively brings attention to the effort. Though...there is masterly sensitivity to the story and character as the cameras is used. It moves more than average, but just right for the scenes.
Even though this kind of camera style detracts from the grandeur and seriousness of an epic spectacle, the mastery creates greater intimacy: our own view through our eyes is similar in dynamism. So it adds a personal touch that is lacking in the gap between film and fiction. Fiction talks to you, whispers in your ear, while film is presented to you on a screen somewhat distant. Jackson's style goes one step in closing this gap.

Jackson has other idiosyncrasies. He will go for a gag; the dwarf tossing and excessive hobbit antics, for instance. Of course, Hobbits as not-spectacular-people enables comic charm. These are cheap shots, akin to the vaudeville sequence at Kong's perch, with Ann Darrow attempting to amuse the great beast (Kong disapproves), but it also provides the audience with a sense that this is only a movie. There is a director who is to provide entertainment, not slavish imitation of a great author.

JRR Tolkien makes self-conscious references as well. However, his are really incidental, too subtle to really add to the structure of the narrative. The Lord of the Rings is 'written' by the characters. This is related after the adventures are over. Jackson dramatizes this, but its even more irrelevant in that the movie one sees is not made by the characters in the movie!

Such frames within frames is a self-conscious device, actually bringing the author closer by putting a person between themselves and the audience.

This is not an important element of Tolkien's work, but it in is Jackson's, as a cumulative effect of a distinctive, hasty camera style and a nod to the audience.

Tolkien makes uses his idiosyncrasies as well. For example there is the delay in the narrative with Farmer Maggot. These starts and stops tactically encapsulate the sense of a boy's adventure in tone, a tone which is to be destroyed, but strategically they contribute to the effect of heterogeneous time.

Like Farmer Maggot, Tom Bombadil serves the reader as reminder that this is just another story. Yet his peculiarities go beyond the boys adventure story to something more cosmic. This is the peak, or strongest event in the development of the heterogeneous time.

Why does Tolkien have Bombadil in the story? Bombadil is immune to the ring, and this would seem to undermine the risk. But Bombadil serves as subtle foreshadowing, as well as a sense of a local haven just around the corner. It is amusing to think that Doctor Tolkien is whispering 'this is not going to hurt very much at all', meaning, this is going to hurt, be prepared, but don't be frightened, it is just a fairy story.

Jackson hastiness, naturally in the transition from book to screen and by Art in his camera style, undermines the final movie. The Return of the King, has a clunky, rushing feeling.

The material suffers because each of these sequences; Pelannor Fields and Black Gate, Shelob, the Orc tower and the Crack of Doom, feel like a regular thirty minutes apiece, again and again.
There is feeling that it is not an organic shape, but a mechanism. What is lacking?

That we do not have the same time stretching as in Tolkien's undermines this sequence of events in the movie. Wherein, in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, the battle after battle does not seem interminable, but to be picking up the unraveled threads of the story's multiple plots and spinning them into a final thread. This is the narrative payoff of having heterogeneous time earlier in the story.

Fran, Peter and Phillipa's revision takes us away from the serious tone of the literary Epic (although Jackson's dominant style takes us away from Epic to intimacy in a large way) while connecting the story to a wider tradition of fairy tales.

In fitting the earlier audience into a tradition, Tolkien takes us away from fairy tale, with Goblins and Elves and Dwarves, into Epic.

Clearly, one important thread is the story of rival people's, with a siege of a great city, all over a most precious thing, like the Iliad. And both stories charts a vast territory filled with monstrous beings, all in hope of returning home, like the Odyssey.

The comparisons go deeper, but the idea is in picking out where in our collective imagination the two works rest, for the film and the book make us experience a incredible and similar story through different medias.

This comparison is forced, but when considering the movie, the force goes too far. Why?
The epic is literary, poetic in fact. While Tolkien synthesized fairy and epic, his concern went more to geopolitics, war and to devastated personalities. Included are dynastic successions and a simulation of history...something we enjoy about Epic for history is an epic.

But, to some degree he marginalized an important Fairy theme. This theme is terribly personal for Tolkien, inspired as he was by the story of the love between elf and man. Lord of the Rings does not develop that story at all. It is a brief appendix.

But this theme is the greatest revision of the story by Jackson, Fran and Phillipa. It changes the tone and characterization of Aragorn and Arwen.

And it is the great success of the film. It is more effective as story between the love of Elf and Man, which is a more pleasingly intimate enchantment. It redeems the movie in that it is not just a narrowing of the material for the convenience of the format, but enlarges the story into, and in a way, closer to its origins.

The story harkens back to earlier times, seeking to bolster the difficulty film will have in doing so; again, it is motion picture's nature to be immediate.

Gollum debating himself could not be as dramatic as a literary moment, and also punctuates the originality of the filmmakers. But it is an incident to the overall plot.

While the love story between Elf and Man is a great liberty taken by the filmmakers, Tolkien's greatest theme, the collusion of psychological and environmental devastation, is dropped. This is one reason why the aerial scenery falls so flat. We expect an epic landscape, but this kind of landscape is perhaps Tolkien's greatest effect. Tolkien's epic landscape excels in comparison to all of literature. It is perhaps unequalled, but that is another essay.

Most of all, this detracts from the characterization of Treebeard. That Treebeard moves is great drama in the books. In the film, it is expected, and not nearly so significant. It is not because our imaginations create a better Treebeard that can be simulated. It is because the long descriptive passages about Nature converge on the meaning of Treebeard's existence. Ents move only in regard to global events.

The meaning of Treebeard is further degraded in showing the destruction of Isengard as a spectacle of rampaging Ents. Jackson knew that the audience would demand to see such a spectacle.

But Tolkien did not dramatize the event. Tolkien is not inclined to dramatize mayhem,
but more important to the overall structure of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, dramatizing, or making a spectacle of the destruction of Isengard would celebrate the destruction of Saruman, ruining the delicate tone of a fallen, yet possibly redeemable hero.

The storyline of Saruman is directly connected as anti-thesis to the long intimate passages describing Nature. This is the most important cultural effect, lacking in the movie. One could say it is impossible to film, but it can be voiced.

If one were quick to dispute, the origination of an entire industry of epic fantasy is certainly a phenomenon. But this is not as far reaching as the global turning of industry to greater environmentally responsible. JRR Tolkien's story of the devastation of human personality is inextricably linked with environmental degradation. Tolkien's voice is at the forefront of this global issue.

Monuments? It is too neat to say that Jackson's innovations in special effects, enabling and excelling in the visualizing of Lord of the Rings in three dimensions, balances with Tolkien's own invention and care to tradition. But in way, it does.

These two works, Jackson's being the sub-sub creation, are works to which Art History will refer. For in both cases the mighty scale of conception and the excellence in execution are rarely equaled.

Lord of the Rings will be produced again. In departing from Jackson's Lord of the Rings, there should be a more faithful use of tense. Perhaps six movies, for whatever length of time needed (the standard two to three hours in length is diminishing as a convention) following the value of preservation and the tone sadness in the books with greater fidelity.
It may not be so entertaining as Jackson's. However, what is Entertainment changes quite profoundly from generation to generation.

Review Book - Valley of Horses by Jean M Auel.

§ 0

This sequel to the prehistoric saga "Clan of the Cave Bear" continues to display author Jean M. Auel's genius at imagining the lives, challenges, and spirituality of our ancient ancestors near the close of an ice age.

In "Valley of the Horses" the story of Ayla continues immediately after her banishment from the Clan that concluded the first book. Now in her middle teenage years, Ayla must seek the Others because she is not of the same kind of people as the Clan that raised her since saving her from a cave lion at the age of five. Ayla is a modern form of human differing from the members of the Clan who are stronger, shorter, with prominent brows, differently organized brains, and limited capacity for speech although they possess a complex language of hand signs and body language. But Ayla never truly fit in despite the love and guidance of her adoptive Clan parents. And the conflicts that arose from her differences eventually caused her to be expelled and cursed by the Clan, and her exile included the painful separation from her young son, Durc. After trekking desperately across ice age steppes, surviving because of all her tremendous skills as a hunter and gatherer, Ayla finds refuge in a green valley occupied by a herd of horses. With winter looming, she decides to make this valley her home despite the fact that she has not found any other people like her. Alone in this place for many seasons, Ayla begins to flourish outside the customs and taboos of the Clan that stifled her natural creativity and ability to innovate. But amid her growing successes, she remains alone and her grief over her lost family and despair for the future are poignantly and skillfully expressed by the author.

Unlike the first novel, Auel branches out the narrative in "Valley of the Horses" to include new characters. The young brothers, Jondalar and Thonolan, are introduced as they begin a journey of exploration away from their home. Through their story as they cross prehistoric Europe, Auel builds a marvelously detailed world filled with rituals, customs, skills, and humanity. Her well-researched imagining of prehistoric peoples offers an insightful and moving contrast to later civilizations. The author's presentation of the original Mother Earth religion with its emphasis on female power is especially compelling. Entering her world in which women are respected, possess sexual freedom, and live alongside men who also enjoy their own freedoms was beautiful to behold and contemplate.

As the novel unfolds, it is readily apparent that Jondalar and Ayla are meant to find each other and become lovers, and my desire to see this happen kept me turning pages. About my only criticism of the novel is that it does drag sometimes as finely detailed descriptions of Stone Age technology are presented, but most of my impatience can be attributed to my longing for the eventual coupling of the hero and heroine. Auel teases her readers with many chapters of sexual frustration and emotional highs and lows, but all is amply alleviated in the novel's conclusion with utterly sweeping romantic joys. The last page of "Valley of the Horses" ends with a great crescendo that left me happy but nervous about the triumphs and conflicts that are certain to arise in subsequent books of the series.

Over-the-Phone Dictation Services Gaining Popularity in Hectic Business World

With a restless economy that shows no signs of letting up in the trying years that are to come, many businesses have to go above and beyond the par in order to attract new clients to their products and or services. As the recession mars the way that business used to be done, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, many businesses are ramping up their efforts at gaining new clients by expanding their services, offering more economically beneficial rates and pursuing new avenues of business that they have never touched upon before.

In short: most businesses are busier than they have ever been in the past, not really due to influxes of clients, but rather, to shortfalls of expected sales and decreases of overall revenues. While some companies have laid off scores of seasoned employees, and others have expanded their staffs, the main theme at most workplaces today is working harder than ever before in order to sustain a positive net revenue that can tide them through these uncertain economic hardships. This is why many businesses and business professionals, executives, CEOs and others are turning to the power of telephonic dictation services in order to better keep track of their daily affairs and pursue a solid game plan that will carry their companies into a financially brighter future.

Such services offer a wide array of benefits to businesses and their employees that utilize them and rely upon them. For the traveling businessperson, the ability to simply make a phone call as they are driving to their next appointment and jot down notes that are later emailed to them securely in a variety of audio formats, is priceless. For others, the ability to call into a toll free number and utilize an easy-to-use dictation service, affords them much time saved when trying to keep track of their daily notes, affairs and schedules, that otherwise may have slipped their minds.

Snow White: The Fairest of Them All (Part 9/9)

§ 0

Sea of Trolls - Book Review.

§ 0

At only $8.99 (US) or $12.50 (Canadian) this 462-page epic fantasy adventure is an unbelievable bargain. The Sea of Trolls has won at least thirty literary awards including A Parents Choice Gold Award and Publishers Weekly's Best Children's Book. Author, Nancy Farmer has also been honored with the Newbery Honor three times!

The author's unusual use of sounds, sense of touch and texture for descriptive scenes is a skill that has helped her stand out among her peers.
Nancy Farmer went to great lengths to ensure that the language, places and even some characters, poetry and so forth were as fitting and authentic as possible for her novel. Certain battles in The Sea of Trolls really did happen, some of the religions, tribes, warriors and even the Bards and Wise Women really did exist during the era that the book is set in.

The setting for this epic fantasy is around 793 A.D. and involves the areas that we know today as England, Iceland, Sweden and a few other regions on that side of the globe. The lead character is an eleven-year-old Anglo Saxon boy, Jack, who is destined for greater things than farming. Berserkers attack the village in a violent raid and steal this young Bard-apprentice and his small sister, Lucy. Soon, his ability as a Bard reveals itself and saves Jack from a servant's fate. An action-packed high-sea adventure leads Jack to the kingdom of the Vikings where he is sent on a quest to the land of Trolls.

The appendix section for this book includes wonderful little history lessons that are certain to renew the reader's interest time and time again. The Sea of Trolls will be a favorite on my family's bookshelf alongside Star Tide Rising, Hawkwood's Voyage, The Road of Silk and On Stranger Tides.

I give this book the highest rating possible and recommend it to anyone who enjoys learning while reading and being entertained with fantasy adventure stories that involve battles, magic and sea travel.

This is a conservative bomb, the period of the best sports video games, in a salute that this is not a video game magazine. Congratulations EA honesty one step further, and goes well with this chapter.
